Conclusion

My employment story at this company is a matted web of corporate pettiness, snobbery, favoritism, yuppie scum mentality and just plain childish and unprofessional.

I worked for a subsidiary of a larger corporation. We few subsidiary personnel just happened to be planted in the parent company’s main headquarters. The other subsidiary personnel were planted in the subsidiary’s main headquarters in another state. Basically, we were all working for the same company but split into different divisions. Yea, I know, it’s confusing.

The parent company personnel did not want us in their headquarters and made this fact known every day. We did not belong there and the parent company personnel did their best to get rid of us. For 5-1/2 years I withstood harassment and discrimination from the parent company personnel including management. These people were unreal. For 5-1/2 years I kept my mouth shut.

On November 30, 2006, I had to attend a workplace/sexual harassment meeting. I dreaded going to this meeting because several of my tormenters were to be present. I knew if these “hoodlums” and I were in the same room that I would be their target. My instincts were correct and I was the target of more torment in front of a room full of people including parent company personnel. This was the breaking point and I could not keep my mouth shut any longer.

Timeline:

December 3, 2006, Filed a workplace harassment complaint against my harassers at the meeting.

December 11, 2006, Had a meeting with a person from the parent company’s human resources department.

December 13, 2006, Handed over incriminating emails from Scum Bag to the parent company’s human resource department.

January

3, 2007, Was informed by the subsidiary human resource department that the investigation was closed.

January 4, 2007, Had a meeting with the parent company’s human resource department. I was not to be informed of the investigation outcome which is normal practice in any HR harassment investigation. I was told that I did not have to worry about ever being bothered by these people again. Yea, that’s because they knew they were getting rid of me, which I did not know at the time.

January 16, 2007, Learn through the rumor mill that our department is being moved out of state.

January 20,

2007, Learn that my managers house was put on the market January 3, 2007.

January 22, 2007, Confront my manager about the rumors. He denies it.

February 1, 2007, Informed that my job has been eliminated due to restructuring.

Meanwhile my harassers still have a job.

11/30/06 Workplace Harassment Training?

I took a tape recorder with me.
Just as I suspected, I was targeted by one of Scum Bag's hoodlums and then the other hoodlums joined in.
Scum just sat there like an innocent victim which is a role he loves to play.
I'm sure Scum put his hoodlums up to this.
I almost started to cry, but was able to hold it in. I wanted to run out of there, but didn't.
I was a wreck. Couldn't eat lunch, could not concentrate on my work. I left early.
My boss admits I was targeted and won't do anything.

I then spent 3 hours writing yet another complaint to HR.

11/20/06 HR Twists the Knife Deeper

I received an email this morning from the HR Department reminding me that I have to go to a sexual/workplace harassment seminar on 11/30/06. I looked at the list to see who else would be attending. Yes, Scum Bag is on the list along with 2 of his managerial "protectors".

My eyes started filling with tears. I have to sit in a room with my accuser and harasser for 2 hours listening to HR spout off a bunch of laws that they don't enforce.

I can't stand the sight of him never mind being in the same room with him. They could have put Scum Bag in another group. Was this planned by the evil management at "Inc."? Is this another kind of punishment they are laying on me? Is this more prodding to get me to quit?

I can't quit.  That's exactly what Scum Bag and the management at "Inc." want me to do. They won't fire me because my work is too good and they are getting me at bargain prices.

So much for the workplace harassment laws, they are a bunch of bull. When you are an ass kisser such as Scum Bag and have management protecting you, you can get away with anything.

Corporate Yuppie Scum Bag Games

HR asks you to write comments on the complaint. BUT they won't show them to the people who need to see them!

I am requesting that G and Scum get a copy of my comments which I understand is not normal procedure.

Facts – Statement of Current Violation, Misconduct or Non-Performance: Unprofessional and unacceptable behavior: Numerous people in the finance department, former employees of "Inc." and one person outside of "Inc." knew that an investigation was being planned by Scum before I was first notified on May 15, 2006. After May 15, 2006, I was informed that Scum had been discussing his plans, before May 15, 2006, with deliberate volume with one person and was overheard by several people just as Scum hoped it would be.

In addition, on another occasion, before May 15, 2006, Scum was again overheard discussing his plans to file a complaint. Discussing anything out in the isles of the finance department is similar to sending a broadcast email.

Scum needs to comprehend that I am not going to leave my position with "Inc." due to his resentful behavior towards me for the past 8 months. Nor am I leaving due to his filing this complaint. Scum’s insane need to defame me by openly discussing his plans with his gossiping cohorts before the investigation and the filing of this complaint is his devious attempt to bring about my termination and/or embarrass me into resigning.

Scum also needs to realize that we work in the same building and we are bound to run into one another, which rarely occurs. This is something Scum does not seem capable of dealing with very well without displaying an exaggerated drama of animosity towards me.

On May 4, 2006 at a farewell luncheon, Scum again felt the need to put on an animated show of obvious contempt towards me for everyone attending. I could only endure about a minute of his vindictive scene and had to leave.

I used email because I was afraid to talk to Scum about his anger due to his bitter behavior towards me. Though, I did end up trying to talk to Scum on April 18, 2006. He was so enraged and out of control that we could not have a rational conversation.

In addition, I have numerous old emails at home written by Scum using "Inc.'s" email system dating from 2005 that are interesting. I could very easily use these emails as retaliation against Scum but this would just be imitating Scum’s spiteful actions and I will not stoop to his level. I could also write a novella about Scum’s inappropriate, unprofessional, unacceptable conduct and conversations that I have dealt with since 2003.

Objectives – Description of Desired Performance and Time Frame for Correction: I always come to work and focus on my assigned work for the day. I have not heard any complaints about the quality of my work. I don’t think the performance of my job has suffered from Scum’s drama of revenge for the past 8 months. You’ll have to ask J As for the rest of it, in the 5 years I’ve been here, I have not witnessed a surplus of cordial, professional decorum or adhering to company policies and procedures. Discretion and confidentiality are unknown at this location.

I do apologize to E, G and J for this situation ever coming to their attention and thank them for them for their time. I trust my candid comments presented above will not be cause for further retribution by ANYONE employed at "Inc." I hope this indiscreet investigation is now closed.

At this point in time, I was fed up with his antics.

At this point in time I should have filed a harassment complaint against him, but I would never have done that to him.

I did not discuss him with anyone inside work after 10/05/06. You can't trust anyone at "Inc.". It was no one's business.

Yet, he felt the vicious need to defame, slander, insult, denigrate, libel, deprecate me to everyone at this workplace. Even people I didn't know or ever spoke to. He wanted to create conflict between me and other co-workers. He suceeded.

What's the story on the word "scumbag"?

After Representative Dan Burton, Republican of Indiana and Chairman of the Government Oversight and Reform Committee, called President Clinton a scumbag a week and a half ago, there has been something of an outburst of interest in this term, which means 'a despicable person'. 

Scum itself has been used for many hundreds of years to refer to offensive, disgusting, or disreputable people, and thus many people take scumbag as an intensification of this scum with the suffix -bag, a frequent element in abusive slang terms (dirtbag; hosebag; sleazebag; etc.), all of which are, however, later than scumbag.

Though most people seem not to realize it now, the original sense of scumbag was 'a condom', based on the slightly earlier, and both rather obvious, scum 'semen' and bag 'a condom'.

People's reaction to scumbag today tend to reflect their awareness of the 'condom' sense, with those who are aware of it finding scumbag significanly more offensive than those who are not. While certainly offensive, scumbag is not in the top tier of the most offensive terms in English. It is more offensive than jerk or creep, but less offensive than, say, asshole. But to publicly call an elected official a scumbag still seems a fairly extreme step, even given the current state of political discourse in America. Note that the New York Times, often squeamish about such matters, did not print the word and used a euphemism instead.

Though most sources claim that both senses, 'condom' and 'disreputable person', date from the late 1960s, the first sense is found in underground literature at least by the 1930s, and the second by 1950.

09/03/05 Incriminating Email

This one is from just a little over a year ago when we were still speaking co-workers.  Notice I don't say he was a "friend".

This one mentions the gift. The gift is illegally purchased prescription pain killers.

See, everyone at work thinks he's such a "nice guy" and would never believe that this "golden boy", this "do nothing wrong prince", this ass kisser would ever do drugs for recreation.  Nor would he, a devoted, married man ever discuss sex in detail with a single woman at work.

Scum initiated the following email from his home address to my home email. Scum was telling the vicious "co-workers" that I was sending emails to his home address. The whole time we were on speaking terms, he was the one constantly sending emails to my home email address. Lying Scum Bag.

Since October 2005 through June 20, 2006

This is hard to explain without being there. When Scum sees me, he acts like he’s putting on a very exaggerated comedy routine. He will look at me in horror like he just saw a ghost, start jumping around, mutter something under his breath and run away. Yes, run away in the opposite direction or try to hide anywhere. If he is with his buddies, he will start the same routine and try to hide behind his buddies while saying something obviously very funny so they all start laughing at his show. On one occasion, he walked by me and made some noise that sounded like “yuck” or “ugh”.

Today, I saw him in the cafeteria and he did not put on the act. Maybe because his buddies weren’t around.

If I arrive at work after Scum, he will go out to the parking lot to check to see where I parked my car. If he feels I parked to close to him, he will move his car.

The emails I have from Scum dating from 2005 would be very, very damaging to him. Sorry, but I still will not resort to blackmail and retaliation against him even after enduring this nightmare situation. I feel that if Scum saw my comments, he would probably drop the complaint.

Also, I received a strange email that made no sense to me. It was from annoyingcoworkers.com. I assumed it was from Scum or one of his gang. This is the second email I have received from this website. I received the first one in January 2006 and I assumed again it was from Scum.

In closing, you must realize that no matter what I say or do, Scum will deny anything and everything and his cohorts will back him up.

Deviate from the norm or not, I am extremely disappointed by the decision made by "my" Human Resources department. If anything, his supervisor alone should have access to my comments.

Normal practice or not, it appears that Scum is not only protected here but also in SD and again escapes any reprimand for his abusive actions and his failure to keep this one-sided investigation confidential.

Since I was notified on 05/15/06, Scum has continued his campaign of revenge against me. Between his harassment for the past 3 years and his cohorts for the past 5 years, I really don't know how much more of this I can take. If I was to leave, I would just be giving Scum and his gang what they want. If I stay, I have to endure more retribution from Scum and his bunch. Damned if I do, damned if I don't and Scum always gets away with whatever he wants to at "Inc.".   

06/12/06 The Man is Insane

My boss did not reprimand me for Scum Bag's attack. My bosses first comment was "He has been working with "those people" on the second floor for too long".
